Stand Tall

As a "Big" in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, I’ve always tried to instill in my Little the same ideals I raised my own kids with: Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity.

The Story

Stand Tall

As a Big in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, I have always tried to share the same values with my Little that I raised my own kids with.

Respect.

Responsibility.

Integrity.

To me, those are not just words.

They are the kind of principles that help shape how we treat people, how we handle mistakes, and who we become when nobody is watching.

Stand tall with respect in your heart. Be responsible when things get hard. Let integrity guide what you do.

Stand Tall grew out of some long, honest, and sometimes difficult conversations with my Little.

The kind of conversations that matter.

The kind where you do more listening than talking.

The kind that make you think about confidence, choices, consequences, character, and the person you want to become.

Those conversations are not always easy.

But they are exactly why mentoring matters.

Sometimes being a Big is about having fun together.

Sometimes it is showing up for an ordinary day.

And sometimes it is sitting down and having a conversation that may help shape how a young person sees himself and the world around him.

Respect starts with how we treat ourselves and others. Responsibility means owning our actions. Integrity is doing what is right even when nobody is watching.

Those ideas became the heart of the song.

Respect means listening before answering.

Recognizing your own worth while remembering that everyone you meet has value too.

Responsibility means showing up.

Owning the choices you make, including the ones that do not go the way you hoped.

And integrity is that quiet voice that still matters when there is nobody around to applaud you for doing the right thing.

I am proud of the young man my Little is becoming.

I believe he is going places.

But the truth is, these lessons are not just for young people.

They are reminders for all of us.

A better world does not start somewhere else. It starts in the choices we make and the example we set.

That is what I wanted Stand Tall to say.

Walk with respect.

Take responsibility.

Choose integrity.

And when the road gets hard, keep becoming the person you know you can be.

The Lyrics

Stand Tall

Verse 1

I won’t tell you life is easy,
I won’t say you’ll never fall,
But I’ll be right here beside you
When the road feels ten feet tall.

There’s a strength that lives inside you,
There’s a light you need to see,
And the way you treat the world around you
Shows the world who you can be.

Pre-Chorus

So look them in the eyes,
Let kindness lead the way,
Own the steps you’re taking,
Mean the words you say.

Chorus

Stand tall with respect in your heart,
Be responsible when things get hard.
Let integrity guide what you do,
Even when no one is watching you.

Respect yourself, respect each other,
Lift your neighbor like a sister or brother.
These are the roots, this is the start,
A better world begins in the heart.

Verse 2

Respect ain’t just a word we say,
It’s how we choose to live.
It’s listening before we answer,
It’s learning how to give.

It’s knowing you have value,
And so does everyone you meet,
From the people in your household
To the strangers on the street.

Pre-Chorus

So speak with honest courage,
Let your actions match your name,
When you make a wrong turn,
Take the wheel and own the lane.

Chorus

Stand tall with respect in your heart,
Be responsible when things get hard.
Let integrity guide what you do,
Even when no one is watching you.

Respect yourself, respect each other,
Lift your neighbor like a sister or brother.
These are the roots, this is the start,
A better world begins in the heart.

Bridge

Responsibility means showing up,
Even when it’s not easy to do.
It means the choices that you make today
Are building tomorrow’s you.

Integrity is that quiet voice
That tells you right from wrong.
It’s doing what you know is right
When the road feels dark and long.

And if we plant these seeds together,
In every daughter, every son,
We can grow a kinder future
One young heart at a time, one by one.

Final Chorus

Stand tall with respect in your heart,
Be responsible when things get hard.
Let integrity guide what you do,
Even when no one is watching you.

Respect yourself, respect each other,
Build a home, a street, a town that loves one another.
These are the roots, this is the start,
A caring world begins in the heart.

Outro

So stand tall, walk true,
Let the good you do speak for you.
With respect, responsibility,
And integrity,
You can be the change we need.
