Sally Slapback
Meet Sally Slapback.
County fair queen.
Steel-toed boots.
Zero patience left for nonsense.
Sally Slapback started as a ridiculous, boot-stomping, corn-dog-dropping country comedy.
Then somewhere along the way, Sally decided she had something to say.
Sally is the kind of person who gives people chances.
She laughs things off.
Tries to keep the peace.
Maybe even offers a little grace when somebody crosses the line.
But eventually, enough is enough.
And Sally has officially reached enough.
The song follows Sally as the same group of fools keeps turning unwanted attention into some kind of running joke.
They think it is funny.
Sally does not.
They tell her not to be mad.
Sally gets madder.
They keep pushing.
Sally starts taking notes.
What makes Sally Slapback work for me is the contrast.
It is intentionally silly.
Big country attitude.
Funnel cake flying through the air.
Corn dogs hitting the ground.
A woman in steel-toed boots becoming a county fair legend.
But underneath all of that slapstick is a pretty simple message:
Respect people’s boundaries.
Sally is not supposed to be a superhero.
She is just somebody who finally decides she is done being treated like somebody else’s joke.
By the time Friday rolls around at the county fair, everybody should already know better.
Apparently, one guy missed the memo.
The corn dog drops.
The funnel cake flies.
Somebody yells, “She warned you, dude!”
And the legend of Sally Slapback is born.
So yes, Sally Slapback is ridiculous.
It is loud.
It is exaggerated.
And it is probably a little unhinged.
But the joke is aimed in the right direction.
Keep your hands to yourself.
Respect the room.
Respect the person.
And if Sally tells you to step back...
I would probably listen.
Sally Slapback
Verse 1
Sally walked in with a grin and a soda pop fizz,
Had a laugh so loud everybody knew where she is.
She’d jump three feet if you snuck up fast,
So the fools in the room started acting half-classed.
One little bop and she’d holler “HEY!”
Then the jackals all giggled like it made their day.
But funny turns ugly when the joke don’t quit,
And Sally got tired of taking that hit.
Pre-Chorus
She said, “Listen up, boys, this ain’t a game,
You don’t get a pass just ‘cause you know my name.
Hands to yourself, let the record show,
I’m one bad mood from letting mine go.”
Chorus
Sally Slapback, Sally don’t play,
She smiled for a minute, then she changed the game.
You thought it was funny, you thought it was cute,
Till Sally came swinging in her steel-toed boots.
No more bops, no more laughs,
No more creeps acting out in class.
Sally Slapback, hear that smack,
She ain’t your punchline, better step on back.
Verse 2
At first she got flustered, embarrassed and red,
While the same three morons kept losing their heads.
“Aw, don’t be mad,” they’d laugh and shout,
Like that made it better, like it canceled it out.
But Sally was brewing like gas station tea,
Too much sugar and catastrophe.
She made a little list in a notebook black,
Titled “Fools Who Are Due For A Slapback.”
Pre-Chorus
She said, “I gave y’all chances, I gave y’all grace,
Now I’m giving consequences directly to your face.
You wanted slapstick? Well, bless your heart,
I brought the ending and I wrote my part.”
Chorus
Sally Slapback, Sally don’t play,
She smiled for a minute, then she changed the game.
You thought it was funny, you thought it was cute,
Till Sally came swinging in her steel-toed boots.
No more bops, no more laughs,
No more creeps acting out in class.
Sally Slapback, hear that smack,
She ain’t your punchline, better step on back.
Bridge
Now let’s be clear, for the folks in the rear,
That creepy little behavior ain’t welcome here.
It’s rude, it’s gross, it’s tired, it’s wrong,
So we put it in a dumb little cautionary song.
Keep your mitts where they belong,
Don’t act shocked when it goes all wrong.
Sally ain’t mean, Sally ain’t cruel,
Sally just graduated creep-control school.
Verse 3
Then came Friday at the county fair,
Same old fool with the same old dare.
He leaned in laughing, hand pulled back,
But Sally spun around with a thunderclap smack.
The corn dog dropped, the funnel cake flew,
Somebody yelled, “She warned you, dude!”
From that day on, the legend was cast,
Nobody tried bopping Sally’s ass.
Final Chorus
Sally Slapback, queen of the day,
Put the whole town’s nonsense back in its place.
You thought it was funny, you thought it was cute,
Till karma came dancing in steel-toed boots.
No more bops, no more trash,
No more “boys will be boys” backlash.
Sally Slapback, clap clap clap,
She ain’t your punchline, better step on back.
Outro
So here’s to Sally, bold and brassy,
Sweet as pie but twice as sassy.
Respect the room, respect the facts,
Or you might meet Sally Slapback.
