Be A Big
Be A Big is more than a song about volunteering. It is a reflection on what ten years of mentoring through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay has meant to me, and how much those relationships have shaped my own life along the way.
My journey as a Big has included two very different Little Brothers, Hunter and Elijah. Each relationship has brought its own lessons, experiences, and growth, from quiet conversations and everyday outings to learning more about patience, responsibility, respect, compassion, and simply showing up consistently.

With Hunter, I learned how powerful it can be to meet someone where they are and grow together from there. Our personalities were very different, but that difference helped both of us stretch beyond our comfort zones, and our bond eventually led to being honored as the agency’s Big and Little of the Year in 2019.
With Elijah, the journey continues through ordinary moments that often become the most meaningful ones. Whether we are out exploring, playing a game, talking in the car, or just spending time together, I am reminded that mentorship is not about having all the answers. It is about being present, setting an example, listening, encouraging, and growing alongside one another.

Be A Big was created to encourage others to take that same step. A few hours, a conversation, or a shared experience can have a lasting impact on a young person, and quite often, on the mentor too.
